SHILLONG: Meghalaya has received an award for maximum proportion of high risk beneficiaries identified under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) among the Northeastern states.
Dr. Kalpana Chaudhary from West Jaintia Hills was also honoured for providing exemplary services under PMSMA based on a state nomination.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, J.P Nadda handed over the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan ‘I Pledge for 9 Achievers Award’ for reduction in maternal mortality rate recently in Delhi to Meghalaya among other states.
“In just 23 months, we have achieved 1.3 crore antenatal check-ups at 12,900 healthcare facilities across the country, said Nadda during the programme.
He added that the health department has identified 6.5 lakh high-risk pregnancies.
Nadda further said that providing quality services to over 2 crore pregnant women in India required amalgamation of far reaching vision, policy and implementation at the ground level. “One of our biggest achievements is that the programme has been successful in reaching out to difficult and some of the remotest areas of the country”, he said.
