SHILLONG: Governor Ganga Prasad expressed hope that the government will take initiatives to include life history of state martyrs in school curriculum.
Prasad was speaking at the commemoration of state’s martyrs at Raj Bhavan on Monday to pay homage to late David Manlun who died during a militant attack in Nagaland last year.
“The Raj Bhavan received a favourable reply from the chief minister of the state at that time. I hope necessary action is being taken by the state government so that in the next academic season, the youth will come to know about the sacrifices of these sons of India,” Prasad said.
He added that it was the second time that Raj Bhavan organised the commemoration programme. Last year, it paid homage to Captain K. Clifford Nongrum.
According to him, the families of officers had given their most valuable assets to the nation. He said Raj Bhavan felt the need to organise annual functions to commemorate the martyrs from the state with the objective to inspire young people to serve the nation.
Earlier, the governor felicitated Manlun’s parents.
Subedar Khamzalam, father of Manlun, expressed happiness that both Nongrum and Manlun performed their duties well.
Manlun was martyred in an encounter with the ULFA and the NSCN(K) militants in Nagaland on June 6 last year while Nongrum died on the line of duty on July 1, 1999, in the Kargil war.
