SHILLONG: A social activist, Banshai Marbaniang, and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) will hold a sit-in demonstration here on Thursday to protest against the state government for not upgrading Mawsynram to a civil sub-division and neglecting the dilapidated Mawphlang-Balat Road.
In a statement issued here, Marbaniang said tourism in the area also needs to be improved as it will create employment for the locals.
He claimed that Mawsynram is one of the oldest blocks in the state. It was created in 1958 by the then Assam government.
The activist claimed that people of Mawsynram have been abandoned by the state government owing to “political propaganda”.
Marbaniang and HYC appealed to the people of the block as well as in Shillong to support the demonstration at the parking lot adjacent to the Additional Secretariat from 10 am to 6 pm.
