SHILLONG: The BJP state leadership will meet to discuss whether support should be given to NPP candidate and chief minister Conrad Sangma for the South Tura by-poll.
Deputy Speaker Timothy Shira had said there will be some understanding with BJP for the by-poll.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Tuesday that a meeting will be held soon to discuss the matter.
When asked about the understanding with NPP, Lyngdoh said since NPP is part of the BJP-led NDA government, there can be “some understanding” at the central level. “However, at the state level, we will have to discuss the matter before arriving at any decision,” Lyngdoh said.
In the February 27 polls, BJP candidate Billykid A Sangma came second and the winning margin of former South Tura legislator Agatha Sangma was 1,603 votes.
