SHILLONG: Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla has expressed that the Seven Sisters of the North East need more caring than the biggest state of the region, Assam.
Talking to media persons here on Tuesday during the 67th plenary session of the NEC, Najma Heptulla said that the population of entire Manipur is around 28 lakhs while the same population lives in Guwahati city alone.
“We are a hilly area, we have no mineral resource,” she said while lamenting that Manipur has been suffering from insurgency
Asserting that Manipur has porous borders, she said that infiltration of arms, drugs and even human takes place from Bangladesh and Myanmar to Manipur
“They are bringing in different ideologies, but here in India we all live as Indians,” she said and added that she will oppose anyone who tries to create a rift in the country
Stating that more than 300 kilometers of Indo-Myanmar border is open, she added that India and Myanmar should have a strategy to keep a tab on cross border movements and there should be identified border line between the two counties.
