GUWAHATI: Assam police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate into the death of a 4th semester student of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Radha Kumari (21) whose body was found in a toilet of a passenger train at Simaluguri junction in Sivasagar district of Upper Assam on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, glaring lapses in security measures in Sivasagar Town Railway Station have come to the light even as Though it is an old railway station located in a historic oil town in Upper Assam, there is not a single CCTV camera is installed in the railway station which has posed great difficulty to the police team probing into the death of the girl student. Moreover, the station master informed that only one RPF was posted to look after the security of the railway station while major portion of the land in the railway station had been encroached upon.
“Nowadays even a small shop has CCTV camera installed. It is surprising to find that CCTV cameras are absent in Sivasagar Railway station. CCTV camera footage would have given vital clues during our investigation,” Additional Superintendent of Police in Sivasagar, Bolin Deuri said. Deuri is leading the investigating team in the field.
Assam police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) headed by the ASP, Bolin Deuri to inquire into the sensational murder of Jorhat based AAU student Radha Kumari.
Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia today informed that ADGP, R P Meena had been asked to monitor the investigation. Saikia said police is also in touch with the NF Railway authorities in connection with the shocking incident. Prima facie, police suspected she was brutally murdered.
Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha and SP Subodh Sonowal on Tuesday visited the residence of Radha and assured the bereaved members of her family that government would release adequate compensation to them besides making all-out efforts to nab the culprit.
The AAU student had gone home at Sivasagar after her semester examination was over on July 7. She boarded the train to visit her grandmother in Golaghat and her mother saw her off at Sivasagar Town Station.
