SHILLONG: Former members of ANVC-B have decided to stage protest against Home Minister James Sangma for the failure on his part to release the rehabilitation package.
They gave one week deadline to the state government to release rehabilitation packages failing which they would resort to demonstration demanding the resignation of Home Minister, former ANVC-B secretary Deepan G Momin said on Thursday.
The surrendered cadres have been neglected for four years since laying down arms and till now they have not received any stipends from the government, Momin said.
“We would protest against home minister for his negligence regarding the packages meant for the ANVC-B cadres”, Momin said.
The ANVC-B had written and spoke to the home minister several times on the matter but his niatgenba which means ‘I will see’ is what can be termed as a politician’s promise, Momin added.
In the last joint monitoring committee meet in Delhi, the state representatives informed that packages were released to 365 ANVC cadres which are not known to the ANVC representatives, he added.
Stating that it is the total failure of the state government and the home minister for not taking the issue seriously, Momin said they would burn effigies of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his deputy Kiren Rijiju as they were present when the agreement was signed.
Momin added that they have been cheated by both the previous and the present government.
Earlier, former chairman of ANVC-B, Bernard N Marak had said that the group submitted a reminder to the Home Minister urging him to clear their rehabilitation package at the earliest.
It may be mentioned that the agreed text of settlement was signed between the Centre, State Government and the A’ chik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) and its splinter group ANVC (B) in New Delhi on September 24, 2014.
