SHILLONG: DGP S B Singh said on Thursday that security forces will remain in the state to ensure normal situation following the violent incidents in the city since May 31.
The district administration is yet to lift night curfew. “We have maintained the necessary force level and police are vigilant to thwart any attempt to disrupt peace,” he said.
To a question on the law and order situation in Garo Hills, Singh said there is no room for complacency though the GNLA was neutralised. “We have to be vigilant, and cannot lower our guard,” Singh said.
( Singh, who is set to retire on July 31, said it was an honour to get associated with Meghalaya police since 1987.
“Police have performed well in ensuring law and order in the state over the years,” he said.
He, however, admitted that the investigation wing of the police needs to be strengthened which will ensure speedy justice, especially while dealing with crime against women and children.
“Scientific investigation is the need of the hour which can ensure speedy disposal of cases,” he added.
