SHILLONG: The Congress is firm on contesting the Ranikor and South Tura by-polls despite the fact that the party’s prospects seem bleak.
After the resignation of Congress legislator MM Danggo, his supporters had dissolved the Ranikor Block Congress Committee. However, the party appointed a convener to revamp the unit.
MPCC working president James Lyngdoh on Monday said he had visited Ranikor recently to ensure that the party is revamped ahead of the by-poll.
“We have started the process of selecting the candidate”, Lyngdoh said.
He added that the party is on the job to put up a candidate in South Tura.
Grithalson Arengh, the Congress candidate in the February 27 Assembly polls, had lost to NPP’s Agatha Sangma by a margin of 2902 votes.
