GUWAHATI: Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem on Thursday met PHE minister Samlin Malgniang in Shillong and urged him for speedy implementation of the Lalumpam Water Supply Scheme and Umsawnongbri Water Supply Scheme.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Syiem said the minister assured that the requisite funds for the schemes would be released soon and that both the schemes would be completed, in all probability, by September this year.

Lalumpam area comprises about 10 villages in the Margnar area while Umsawnongbri comprises about four villages which are located about 12km from Margnar Lake.

“Once the schemes are completed, the problem of water supply in the villages would be sorted once and for all,” the MLA said.

The legislator also raised the need for having a new water supply scheme for Nongpoh town and stressed for its sanctioning at the earliest.

“We hope that the Nongpoh Water Supply Scheme is sanctioned within this year and subsequently commissioned and inaugurated within two years. Water scarcity in Nongpoh town will be solved once the scheme becomes operational,” Syiem said.
