SHILLONG: In view of the burgeoning  unemployment in the state, the MLA of South Shillong constituency , Sanbor Shullai    has asked various government departments  to  properly advertise   and publicize self-employment schemes of the government for the benefit of the unemployed  youth.

Shullai on Friday held discussions with as many  as  28  departments and banks in the city   on this issue especially concerning the different self employment schemes of the government.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shullai said   that it was  very difficult to get a government job in this present day  and this was not just a state or national problem but many countries were encountering the problem of unemployment.

Asserting that there are various self employment schemes in deferent government department, he said that such schemes in these departments can help the unemployed youths of the state

He, however, lamented that these schemes were not being advertised or brought to the notice of the local people  and hence there was a lack of knowledge about these self employment schemes.

When asked, he informed different departments  in the meeting  were directed to furnish the guidelines and funds available for the various self-employment schemes within one week.

“The departments will soon furnish the guidelines on how to apply for these various schemes and only then we will be able to take things forward by creating awareness in different town dorbars to inform the public especially those unemployed about the existence of these self employment schemes,” he said.

He said that most of these departments had been allotted a provision of funds for advertisement to inform the general public about the various schemes through sign boards, banners etc., however no such initiative had not been carried out.

Maintaining that  the number of educated youths were increasing and hence immediate steps were required to be taken to rectify this issue of unemployment, he stated that and one of these steps to address the concern of unemployment was self employment schemes

He informed that last year there were nine vacant  position of grade four  staff in one of the government departments, but around 18, 000 people had applied for the post.
