SHILLONG: It was an unusual scene at the State Secretariat on Tuesday evening when a group of employees were seen dancing to peppy music during duty hours and having a party of their own.
A group of reporters spotted around 4-5 employees, mostly women, in the Law (A) Department dancing around 3.45 pm though the reason for the celebration was not known. The office hour ends at 5pm.
The department, which is situated at the entry of the Secretariat, forced many to ask if there was any party at the Secretariat while others thought the employees were sharing a light moment at a colleague’s farewell.
While some observed that it is every individual’s right “to have a blast” at any time and for any reason, many pointed out that employees should maintain office decorum, especially during duty hours.
Some observed that while it is the right of all the employees to have a celebration for any reason they want, but the decorum of the Secretariat should be maintained by the employees, especially during the working hours.
When contacted, the Nazir of the Secretariat said he had no idea about the incident. He could not confirm if any party can be organised in the Secretariat during office hours as per the rules.
The Secretariat houses many VIP offices including those of the ministers and IAS officers and there are hundreds of visitors everyday.
