Prevention of blindness drive conducted

SHILLONG: As a part of the Meghalaya Day celebrations, Jaintia Hills district administration and District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) in collaboration with Bansara Eye Care Centre, Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India(ACOIN) and Vision 2020 organised a two -day prevention of blindness drive on January 20 and 21.

A team of 15 eye specialists from all over the country and 20 Optometrists from Bansara Eye Care conducted the drive. Noted ophthalmologist Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, Dr. Jennifer Basaiawmoit, Dr.(Col.) Deshpande, Dr. Praveen Vashisht, Dr. Swapan Samantha took part in the drive.

Dr. M.S. Nonghuloo, F. Gatphoh, Dr. W. Dkhar and Dr. J.V.Basaiawmoit were the organizers of the event.

On the first day, ocular morbidity survey was conducted in six areas of the district namely Nartiang, Padu, Namdong, Ioo Ksi, Narwan and Sohkymphor.

On Saturday, a free mega eye referral camp was conducted at Bansara Eye Care Jowai where over 712 patients were treated.
