SHILLONG: DGP Raghvendra Awasthi has said the state police are cautious against any move by militant groups from outside Meghalaya to set base in Garo Hills.
The statement comes days after an NDFB militant was shot dead in an encounter with security forces in East Garo Hills.
When asked whether the presence of NDFB cadres in Garo Hills that has recently recovered from decades of insurgency a cause for concern, Awasthi said there are certain issues which arise out of the contiguity of geographical areas of both the states.
The contiguity of areas helps a militant to move from one place to another, he said.
He, however, said it was not much of a concern in the border areas and police “are attentive, cautious and resisting effectively and it has not affected the normal activities of citizens”.
