SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Nongthymmai Circle on Wednesday met the officer in-charge of Laitumkhrah Traffic Branch to apprise him of the increase in congestion, especially during school hours, in and around Goraline area due to the ongoing road construction.
The organisation said the road that connects localities like Umpling, Rynjah, Pohkseh, Nongrim Hills to Laitumkhrah area has been chaotic as vehicles get stranded and commuters cannot walk on the road.
As a result, students get late for school and college. The federation suggested that the road from Laitumkhrah to Nongrim Hills via Goraline should be made a ‘no-entry’ zone for a certain period in the morning (7-9 am) and only allow vehicles coming up from Nongrim Hills and MES via Goraline proceeding towards Laitumkhrah to ease the congestion.
The traffic branch welcomed the suggestion and assured to implement it.
