SHILLONG: The state government is in talks with private entities for building five-star and seven-star hotels in the city.
Talking to media persons on Saturday, Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh said a few parties have come to Shillong “but the major problem is land” as investors can only take land on lease.
“However, we are trying to facilitate them to set up hotels in Shillong,” Lyngdoh said while maintaining that the government would like locals to invest.
When asked about the incomplete Crowborough hotel in the heart of the city that has been delayed for 30 years, Lyngdoh said as per documents, it will be complete by 2020. “There will be a site inspection in the next two weeks,” he added.
Apart from Crowborough, the five-star Mariott hotel coming up on Jail Road is also stuck in hurdles for many years. Lyngdoh said the government is trying to clear the project at the earliest.
