CM assures release of teachers’ pending salary

SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASA) on Saturday decided to halt their sit-in demonstration after getting an assurance from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to release their four months’ pending salary.
President of the association, L Marngar said, “The chief minister asked us to be patient.” The association had given an ultimatum of August 20 to the state government to release the pending salary, he said.
The salary of the Upper Primary teachers was reduced to Rs 20, 000 from Rs 20, 413 while that of the Lower Primary was reduced to Rs 15, 000 from Rs 19,044. Since, the funding pattern is 90:10, the state government will bear the remaining expenses, he added.
