Molestation charge against ADC

SHILLONG: The Governor’s Secretariat will initiate action against the ADC to the Governor Gopa Kumar, who has been accused of molesting a teenage dancer inside his official residence, after receiving the police report.

“We would wait for completion of police investigation before initiating any action against Kumar,” Governor Secretariat Commissioner and Secretary P Shakhil Ahammed said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police AR Mawthoh informed that Kumar had already been questioned in connection with the case. He, however, refused to divulge any details. The police would record statements of some more people before proceeding with the investigation, the SP said.

Kumar, who is with the Assam Rifles in the rank of Deputy Commandant, allegedly molested the 19-year-old dancer of the Megha Rockers Dance group on Sunday evening.

“We have received a complaint of molestation. We have registered a case and investigation is on,” a senior police official told a news agency.

The ADC, however, has rubbished the allegation terming it as a ploy to “tarnish” his image.
