SHILLONG: Meghalaya is next to Assam when it comes to low Aadhaar saturation.
In Meghalaya, the Aadhaar saturation is as low as 26.1 per cent but far better than the neighbouring state where it is only 9.7 per cent.
But other northeastern states have shown high percentage of Aadhaar coverage with Arunachal Pradesh at 78.9 per cent, Manipur at 81.2 per cent, Mizoram at 86.5 per cent and Sikkim at 87.4 per cent.
The implementation of Aadhaar in Meghalaya initially faced hurdles as the Khasi Students Union was against it.
An official from the state government said there was no time frame for cent per cent saturation. “We are letting people (to enroll) as and when they want to,” the official said.
