SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has called for collective efforts to tackle the flood situation in Kerala, while highlighting the need to address the issue of climate change.
In an interview to NDTV on Sunday, the chief minister said the natural calamity can happen in any state.
“Today, it is Kerala, tomorrow it can happen to any state”, Sangma said.
In 2014, in the devastating flood in Garo Hills, more than 30 people died and thousands of people were rendered homeless and they had to take shelter in relief camps. Besides, there were massive damages to roads and bridges.
While extending all assistance to the flood affected southern state, the chief minister reiterated the need to mitigate the impact of climate change.
The state government had earlier planned to release Rs 1 crore from the CM’s relief fund to Kerala.
