Employees’ State Insurance Scheme website launched

SHILLONG: The official website of the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme was launched here today at the NIC Conference Hall by the Principal Secretary of Information Technology and Communication DP Wahlang.
Addressing the gathering Wahlang said that the labour department is a very important department for the welfare of the labourers who are the marginalized sections of society.
He said that many labourers in the state are not aware of the benefits that can be availed from the department and thus there is a need to disseminate information. He also mentioned the need to disseminate information about the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) – a multi dimensional social security scheme for the welfare of the labour class and the weaker sections of the society.
The ESIS was implemented in Shillong back in 1980 and extended to Byrnihat in 2005. Those covered under ESIS are entitled to two types of benefits – cash benefit which comprise of sickness benefit, extended sickness benefit, enhanced sickness benefit, maternity benefit, dependent benefit, disablement benefit and funeral benefit. The second type of benefit is the medical benefit.
Also present during the launch were State Informatics Officer T Dkhar, HC Lyndem, Administrative Medical Officer, ESI Scheme, Meghalaya and B Nongsiej, IMO, ESI Dispensary Shillong. The website can be reached at megesis.nic.in
