TURA: The claim made by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) of having executed a villager for being a police informer has been found to be true with the recovery of the decomposed body of the victim Songchi Ch Sangma.
Police have, however, refuted that Songchi was an informant.
The body was recovered after a police team conducted a search operation inside a jungle near Danga Natong village in Zikzak area of West Garo Hills police. The body was recovered from a spot three kilometers from the village.
Incidentally, the villagers, during their interrogation by police, had denied that anyone had been executed in the village.
The victim was a daily labourer and was formally working with the GNLA as a ‘muster roll’.
It may be noted that GNLA area commander of Ampati, Rahul R Marak, had called up the office of a Garo daily Salantini Janera and claimed that the outfit had executed a villager as he was a police informer.
The militant leader had further claimed that the State police used villagers to gather information about the outfit promising monetary compensation which is never paid to them.
