TURA: The National People’s Party, which was written off by rivals after the death of its founder PA Sangma, has spread its wings proving its critics wrong, Home Minister James Sangma has said.
Addressing a gathering at the party’s sixth foundation day celebrations here recently, Sangma said soon after the death of his father, their political opponents had predicted the end of NPP.
“The party has proved them wrong and it is now a part of the government not only in the state but also in Manipur and Nagaland. Also, in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, senior and elected leaders have already joined the party,” he added.
Adviser to the Chief Minister and North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma, who also spoke on the occasion, said NPP was a legacy of Late P A Sangma and urged everyone to work hard together to keep his legacy alive.
The foundation day was celebrated at the residence of former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma at Walbakgre in Tura. With the date coinciding with the 71st birth anniversary of late P A Sangma, the same was also observed in a simple but solemn gathering in the presence of family and party workers.
Earlier, the party flag was unfurled at 12 noon, which was accompanied by the late leader’s favourite song, ‘O ang atchiram song’.
