NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) Nobosohpoh Circle West Khasi Hills District on Wednesday visited the PHC sub-centre of Mawsaw under the leadership of S. Lyngkhoi president and Secretary D. Lyngkhoi along with the executive members of HANM.
The team was surprised to see that the sub-centre lacks medicines and the quarters resembled abandoned ghost-house with no electricity connection or water supply.
The sub-centre has been functioning since the year 1970 with two staff quarters. These two quarters remained unoccupied for the last 12 years till date.
The lone nurse working in the sub-centre told the HANM team that he has been facing lot of problems as the centre has been covering 23 villages.
The sub-centre has to open once in a week. During this day also no patients visit the centre due to far-flung locations; the nurse has to distribute medicines and other immunizations by visiting village to village since patients hardly visit the centre. The HANM has demanded the Government to appoint at least one more nurse. So that one nurse can station at the sub-centre while the other can go out for village to village visit.
