Nest Fest starts to welcome NE students

NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Nest Fest 2018 on Saturday to welcome fresher students from the North East living in and around Delhi.
This year’s programme, organised by My Home India, coincided with the birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, legendary singer, musician and composer from the northeastern region.
Singh said in his address the North East is the heart of India and without its development the all-round growth of India is not possible. He recalled that only during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that DoNER Ministry was formed for development of the NE.
Singh added that after Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under his Act East Policy, has prioritised development of the eight northeastern states, which he termed as ‘Asta Laxmi’. Mentioning names of few sports personnel like Hima Das, Dipa Karmakar and few others, the home minister said the region “is full of multi-talents and which need to be explored”.
Speaking on the occasion, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb praised the role of MHI for its various social services. The MoS Civil Aviation, Jayanta Sinha, said the present government at the centre is emphasising on better infrastructure and connectivity of the northeastern region and which are basics and necessary for the development.
