SHILLONG: With several cases of malaria being reported from Raid Marmain on the Meghalaya-Assam border of Ri Bhoi, local MLA Mayralborm Syiem has said the locality needs a primary health centre (PHC).
The building for the health centre was completed in 2017 but “the government has not been able to sanction different posts to the PHC”, said the MLA.
“The (health) minister will take up the matter by taking it to the Finance Department to sanction posts, both technical and non-technical, for the PHC to start functioning,” he told reporters after meeting Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday.
The quarters for doctors and nurses are also ready.
Raid Marmain experiences high instances of malaria and there is a need for better health facilities, the legislator said, adding, “After sanctioning of posts, we hope by the end of this year or the beginning of next year it will start functioning.”
The PHC will serve over thousands of villagers residing in the border areas.
