SHILLONG: HM Cements Ltd, which is undertaking the construction of a five-star hotel at Jail Road in the city, is yet to respond to the show-cause notice issued to the lessee for the payment of pending dues.
Only one month is remaining for the expiry of the deadline.
The government gave three months’ time for the lessee to comply with the agreement and clear the dues.
Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling said if there is no response from the lessee, the government will take over the building.
The land measuring 71,649.58 sq ft at the old Municipal Building premises on Jail Road was leased out to HM Cements for 30 years.
The lessee was to pay the pending rent amount of Rs 2.50 crore to the government, but in vain.
The lessee also violated the terms and conditions of the agreement since it could not complete the building in time.
HM Cements will have to spend an additional Rs 40 crore to complete the project.
Besides the five-star hotel, the building will have a shopping complex, parking lot and the office of the Shillong Municipal Board.
