NONGSTOIN: A couple, probably living in penury, chose to visit a stranger’s house to give away their baby girl instead of abandoning her.
In an FIR lodged by Kellinda Kharsyiemlieh, a resident of Ladweitang here, said the duo, whom she suspects to be husband and wife, came to her house around Monday noon.
The couple, who were unknown to Kharsyiemlieh, handed her over a baby girl and said they could not afford to take care of her.
Kharsyiemlieh has lodged the complaint against the unidentified couple.
Police have forwarded the baby to the chairperson of the West Khasi Hills District Child Committee. No case has been registered.
