SHILLONG: Many former legislators are yet to vacate rooms in the MLA hostel making it difficult for the government to make new allotments.
Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira said on Tuesday a former MLA is using a room as she is unable to get a house in Shillong, which is important as her children are here.
It was also informed that the wife of a former MLA is using the room of former MLA Deborah Marak and notices have been served to all who are delaying moving out to vacate their rooms.
A minister during an informal discussion said he is yet to be allotted a room while many former MLAs continue to use the rooms.
Stating that all the former MLAs have to shift because rooms in the MLA hostels are limited, Shira admitted that there is shortage of rooms and rooms cannot be allotted to all the MLAs.
“Many MLAs illegally allow other people to stay in the rooms allotted to them and there is a need to frame rules and regulations” to stop the practice, the deputy speaker said.
Shira said it is difficult to allot rooms to all Cabinet ministers and MLAs but they are trying their best.
