NONGPOH: Registering strong protest over steeping prices of fuel and other food commodities, Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee on Thursday staged a protest march at Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district.

Meanwhile, Nongpoh Region Auto Owners &Drivers Association had also staged their protest march at Nongpoh in protest over rising fuel prices. More than hundred Auto Rickshaws lined up in the street to register protest.

Speaking to media persons after the protest march, MPCC President, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said that the Congress was forced to stage such a protest against the rising prices of fuels and food commodities prices as the central government under the BJP ruling had done nothing to arrest the steeping prices that have caused tremendous hardship to people.

He also said that the Congress was deeply concerned that under the BJP rule prices food commodities and fuel were increased much more compared to Congress rule in the past and all the promises made by the BJP before the last general election in 2014 hard remained as promises unfulfilled.

The President of Nongpoh Auto Owners and Drivers Association, Markus Marten also said that the drivers and owners were forced to stage their protest in the street as the state government and central government were not serious to arrest rising fuel prices.

“Rising fuel prices have adversely affected the driver and owners who will be forced to increase the Auto Rickshaw fare that will hit hard the general commuters especially underprivileged citizens,” he said.
