SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Nongkrem constituency on Wednesday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma with a demand for setting up a C&RD Block in the area.
Chairman of the committee and local MLA, Lambor Malngiang said, “We have felt the need to set up a Block in Nongkrem as the Mylliem and Mawryngkneng C&RD Blocks are quite far from here”, he said, while adding that the government would pay heed to their demand despite similar pleas being made from other quarters as well.
The minister further added that the government should consider their demand since the population of Nongkrem is over 76,000.
Areas under Nongkrem constituency that fall under the Mylliem C&RD Block are Madanrting, Laitkor, Mawbynna-Pomlakrai, Umiew, Umsaw and Mawpynthih while Mawryngkneng C&RD Block covers Smit, Umphyrnai, Nongkrem and Umphrup.
