MLCU, Lady Keane College observe World Tourism Day

SHILLONG/TURA: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Martin Luther Christian University, celebrated World Tourism Day by organising a street campaign among taxi drivers in the city on Thursday.
The aim of the campaign was to spread awareness about the principles of delivering hospitality services to tourists and passengers.
Pamphlets on care and safety, service and hospitality, sustainability and cleanliness were distributed among taxi drivers at various junctions including Fire Brigade, Motphran, Mawkhar, Khyndailad, Thangkhiew Petrol Pump,
Mawlai, Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, informed Head of the Department P. Kharlukhi.
The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Lady Keane College also observed the day on the theme ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dean of SEMIS, NEHU, Professor B. Panda spoke about about linking tourism with digital advances, economic development and sustainability.
A documentary titled, ‘Innovative, promote and sustain’ prepared by the students of the department was also released by Professor Panda.
A workshop on Travel Photography and Travel Documentary was also conducted on the occasion.
In Tura,  one day interactive workshop on “Tourism and Service Development in Garo Hills” was organised as part of the celebration of World Tourism Day at Food Craft Institute, Tourism Complex with the theme “Tourism and Digital Transformation”.
Speaking on the occasion, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh stressed on the need to promote Adventure Tourism in the region.
He said that the stretch from Jengjal to Nongstoin has unique scenic beauty.
The road is also good and is suitable for organising marathon and cycling competitions which will attract tourism.
