MAWKYRWAT: The Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee (MBCC), South West Khasi Hills District, has unanimously decided to nominate Carness Sohshang as the party candidate for the upcoming council election from Mawkyrwat.
MBCC general secretary, Helding Shangdiar informed that the decision was taken in the meeting held as early as March this year at Mawkyrwat in which all the leaders and supporters of the party from the Constituency decided to send the name of Sohshang as their candidate. “The decision of the MBCC which was taken in March still stands in which only Sohshang applied for the ticket from Mawkyrwat Constituency and the BCC had also recommended the same,” Shangdiar said.
He also said that the party under the leadership of Sohshang was united and became stronger. “In the last few months, many leaders and supporters of other political parties have joined the party and therefore this time we have full confidence of winning the election,” Shangdiar said.
It may be mentioned that in the last Assembly election, Sohshang a first timer and candidate of the Congress was a runner up and lost to Renikton L. Tongkhar of the HSPDP by a margin of 458 votes after securing only (6349 votes).
