Programme on ‘scientific beekeeping’ held in Ri Bhoi
SHILLONG: A training and demonstration programme on ‘Scientific Beekeeping’ was held at Lalumpam village in Ri Bhoi on Wednesday. The programme was conducted by ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam under ‘Farmer’s FIRST project’ with an objective to deliver and demonstrate scientific techniques of beekeeping. Twenty local beekeepers were selected from seven different villages adopted under this project. Project Principal Investigator R Laha stressed on importance of beekeeping and integration under the farming system approach. DM Firake, scientist (Entomology), conducted the training and demonstrations on different beekeeping aspects. Selected beekeepers were previously provided with different essential equipments and bee boxes to promote scientific beekeeping in Meghalaya.
Two arrested in alleged love triangle
SHILLONG: A woman lodged a complaint on September 29 stating that a person identified as Md. Ekbal Hussain of Sonapur village under Mankachar police station in Assam, along with his relatives, introduced himself as a bachelor and arranged to marry the complainant. On October 1 around 10 pm, Hussain married the complainant as per Muslim customary law. However, on October 2, the complainant found out that her new husband already had another wife after a woman approached her and claimed to be Hussain’s first wife.Later, the accused persons threatened to kidnap the complainant if she refused to go with him. In this connection, police have arrested Hussain and Munirul Islam.
International Day for Older Persons celebrated in NGH
TURA: To honour the contribution of the elderly in shaping and transformation of the society, the International Day for Older Persons was celebrated at Daram Union Secondary School in Resubelpara on Thursday. Reflecting on the theme ‘Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions’, Deputy Commissioner S C Sadhu while speaking as the Chief Guest said that it is a befitting day to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of all those responsible for championing the rights of the senior citizens. He added that society is the result of the contributions made by older men and women and the younger generation should respect them for their role in shaping the society. DSWO, M D Arengh also spoke about the importance of the rights of older persons. As part of the occasion, a felicitation for senior citizens was also held during the programme.
