Farmers asked to increase rice production

 JOWAI: With an aim to encourage farmers to increase rice production, the Office of the District Agriculture, Jowai jointly with theKrishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) organised a one-day work shop on ‘Sustainable Rice Production’ cum Exhibition of germplasm rice at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong Jowai on Wednesday.Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary (Agriculture) to the Government of Meghalaya, P Kharkongor said, “The importance of rice is no longer the question but rather how can we meet the growing demand and reduce import and to be self sufficient.’’

He encouraged the farmers to increase the production so that it could be even be exported.
