SHILLONG: At a time when the Congress party in Meghalaya is facing the challenge of desertions besides defeats in elections, the veteran politician and Congress leader, AH Scott Lyngdoh has called upon the top leadership of the party to get together and sort out all the issues in the party.
Talking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday, the former finance minister expressed his unhappiness with the ongoing developments in the party and called for introspection
“I don’t know what is going on and everybody is keeping quiet, and I think the situation needs introspection”, he said.
Stating that he is surprised by the resignation of DD Lapang from the party, Lyngdoh added that Lapang should have discussed his grievances but he decided to give up on his own.
Urging the ranks and files of the party to come together, he added that things cannot go on like this forever in the party.
According to Lyngdoh, all the members of the party should be united to become one force and the party cannot be left leaderless.
When asked about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state, Lyngdoh said that when the election comes, all will wake up.
“When elections come, you give up all small things and you come forward and join hands together,” he added.
The Congress party in the last one year has witnessed a series of instances when senior leaders left the party and joined other political parties.
Before the Assembly elections, leaders like Prestone Tynsong, Rowell Lyngdoh, AL Hek and others left the party.
While some of them won elections and became ministers in the new government, many others lost the polls.
Even after elections, senior Congress leader, MM Danggo left the party and sought re-election from Ranikor, but in vain.
The biggest jolt for Congress came recently when five time chief minister and senior Congress leader DD Lapang resigned from the party after accusing the central leadership of sidelining old leaders.
He was recently appointed as the chief advisor to the Meghalaya Government.
Apart from desertions, the Congress in Meghalaya has also witnessed defeats in by-polls in Williamnagar, Ranikor and South Tura.
