SHILLONG: The Cabinet on Thursday was briefed on the state’s preparation for the National Games in 2022.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong later informed media persons that the Sports Department has got 50 acres of land in New Shillong Township for constructing a stadium.
The stadium project will be funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the total sanctioned amount is Rs 300 crore.
Reacting to a query, he also informed that 70 acres have been identified at Mawdiangdiang for construction of the Games Village and “the government has to manage resources for this”.
In addition, Tynsong also said the process of engaging consultants, architects and the CEO of the National Games will be over by November 15.
When asked how the government will construct the infrastructure within three years when construction of JN Stadium took more than 20 years, Tynsong said the government is committed and he assured that the construction of the stadium will be completed before the start of the National Games.
