SHILLONG: A group of miscreants broke into the Presbyterian Church at Mawlai Umshing Mawkynroh late on Thursday night and took away two speakers and Rs 25,000.
Church Deacon D. Wanswett said the miscreants broke the lock of the main door and searched drawers, bookshelves and the donation box. The incident took place around 2am.
Wanswett lodged an FIR at Mawlai police station.
The new building of the church is still under construction.
“We suspect that 3-4 people are involved. It is not the handiwork of one person. They also tampered with the donation box and offerings, even the keys,” Wanswett said.
The thieves also broke into a nearby shop run by
Spilis Diengdoh who also works as a watchman at the church. The culprits took away cigarettes worth Rs 1,200.
This is not the first break-in at the church and last year miscreants stole flower vases.
