NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Police in remembrance of the fallen heroes of the department on Saturday conducted a marathon ‘Run for Martyrs’ where more than 80 policemen including women police serving in various parts of the district took part with great enthusiasm.
The 6 kilometers marathon which commence from State Sports Council, Indoor Stadium, Saiden and culminate at Indoor Stadium, Nongpoh also witness the presence of high ranking police officers of the district which include Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) VD Sangahiwot Rymbai, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dangsan Khyriem, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Shoster Marsing and others.
In the general category, John Shylla emerges as the winner, Nobet Inghi and Dhanto Rabha secured second and third place respectively. In the RC Category, the first position was secured by Dhumland Marwein followed by Lammiki Wann in the second position and Marbiangki Suchiang in the third position whereas in the women category, Dakahi Kyndait emerges victorious followed by Pynshaibha Sari and Lalitha A Marak in the second and third position.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, DSP (Crime) Shoster Marsing said that the event was conducted to remember the fallen heroes of the police department who died in the service of the state and the nation. Marsing further said that the event was of significant importance as it would also help them to remain physically fit.
Beside the presence of police officers, the prize distribution ceremony held at the basketball court of Indoor Stadium, Umlyngkdait was also attended by Lansius Syiemlieh as chief quest and Cornelius Laloo as guest of honour where cash prize and certificates were also distributed to the winners of different categories.
