Meghalaya wants to avoid expenditure on buying land for Games infrastructure

SHILLONG: The State Government is now trying to develop infrastructure for the National Games in the existing land where Government would not have to spend additional money.

Talking to media persons here after the meeting of the High Powered Committee of the National Games, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that the idea of the meeting was to take the proposal forward for Games Village and stadium.

“We are trying to see that there is not much financial burden on the state and we are trying to find ways for which we don’t to have to spend additional money for buying land due to financial constraints.

He said that the Government was keen to develop infrastructure in the existing land which the Government have in and around Shillong.

Soon after the meeting, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma left for New Delhi and Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh also accompanied him.

Sources, however, said that the Lyngdoh accompanied Chief Minister as they would try to get funds from different Ministries in New Delhi for building up the infrastructure for the National Games.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Social Justice have already sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the construction of the National Games stadium in Shillong.
