Set up intellectual property centres, innovation labs: UGC
New Delhi: The UGC has asked all universities and higher educational institutions to set up ‘Intellectual Property centres’ and ‘Innovation labs’ to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. “The start-ups, innovators and entrepreneurs from across the country have appreciably applied their creativity to address social issues. “However, it is further needed that a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship must be promoted as there is is no dearth of grassroots level innovations in the country and efforts must be made to facilitate their growth,” the University Grants Commission (UGC) said in a letter to universities. Setting up Intellectual Property Centres at universities, establishing innovation labs, setting up entrepreneurship cells and adding entrepreneurship into curriculum are among the activities prescribed by UGC. It has also asked universities to encourage organisation of boot camps, mentoring and investor sessions and holding entrepreneurship focussed events at colleges where successful entrepreneurs be invited to interact with students. Man dies in freak incident as country-made gun goes off
Machilipatnam (AP): A man was killed in a freak incident when a countrymade gun, placed by tribal hunters, went off after he stepped on a rope tied to its trigger in a forest area in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. 35-year-old Srinivasa Reddy met with the tragic end when he was collecting flowers in the Kanumuru forest along with two others, they said. He had stepped on the rope tied to the trigger of the gun placed on a tree and facing down, resulting in his death.
Police said the gun would have been placed on the tree by tribals to hunt wild boars. (PTI)
Four die in road mishap in MP
Satna: Four members of a family, including two children, on their way to a temple on Wednesday were mowed down by a truck on Satna-Simaria road, the police said. Two others were injured in the accident. The incident occurred at around 4 AM when a group of six persons, including two children, was walking towards the Durga temple, located 5 kms away from the city, an officer said. “The victims are identified as Chunni Pyasi (65), Renu (30), Lalla (6) and Shubhi (8),” Kolgawa police station in-charge RP Singh said, adding that they were residents of Ghugchhiyai village. The injured persons are undergoing treatment in Satna, he said. Police were alerted about the incident around an hour later by some passers-by, the officer said. A case has been registered against the truck driver who fled the spot after the accident, Singh said, adding that further investigation is underway. (PTI)
Rs 58 lakh, 1 kg gold found in car
Panna (Madhya Pradesh): Nearly Rs 58 lakh in cash and one kilo of gold and silver jewellery were found in a car in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, police said on Wednesday. Police Superintendent Vivek Singh told IANS that Rs 57.8 lakh of cash was in the car when it was searched on Tuesday evening. The car and its four occupants were from Agra. Madhya Pradesh goes to the polls on November 28. The police were doing a routine check of all vehicles. (IANS)
7-yr-old girl raped in Haryana
Chandigarh: A seven-year-old girl, who was returning home from her school, was allegedly raped by a man in Haryana’s Rewari district, police said on Wednesday. The man grabbed the child and took her to the fields and raped her there on Tuesday, they said. The girl was profusely bleeding when she reached home, police said. She narrated the ordeal to her mother following which police were informed, they added. The child was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, police said. A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused, they said. The girl’s parents are said to be migrant labourers. (PTI)
