Shillong Autumn Festival to get bigger and better: Organisers

SHILLONG: One of the most popular festival of Shillong, The Shillong Autumn Festival is set to return after five years with a different organiser.
The festival will be held on October 26 and 27 at Water Sports Complex, Orchid Resort in Umiam.
Alethea Lyngwa, one of the members of Opus Productions which is organising the festival on Saturday told media persons that they are keen to maintain the standards of the festival.
The new organisers are also confident in making the festival “bigger” in the years to come.
The festival started in 2006 with an aim to attract tourists and the festival soon became a hit.
“We have taken the initiative to bring back the festival to the people and to give tourists another reason to visit the state during this festive period,” the organisers added.
It may be mentioned that the festival was earlier organised by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum and the festival was organised the last time in 2012.
Lyngwa said that they will ensure that the festival remains a family-oriented event, adding the highlights of the festival will music and entertainment along with kids zone, traditional food items and water sports at the picturesque resort.
Andreas War, another member of Opus Productions, said the festival will mostly highlight local bands.
Musical bands like Avora Records, who won the Hornbill Festival, Blue Temptation, Black Jack, Wavelength, Roots Reggae Band, Colours, Emperical Tribe, Different Matters, Ribor Mb Productions and DJs will be performing at the event.
The two day event will also feature an ethnic fashion show, cultural shows, magic shows, tattoo artist and handicrafts.
The event will also have a Gen X stage which will be open to upcoming artists to showcase their talent to a wider audience.
