GUWAHATI: The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) is likely to submit its report on the operation of passenger trains over Bogibeel bridge, which connects Assam’s Dibrugarh district on the south bank of the Brahmaputra with  Dhemaji on the north, within October.
Railway officials here confirmed The Shillong Times on Monday that a CRS team inspected the entire route from Dhamalgaon rail station (Dibrugarh side) to Tangani rail station (Dhemaji side) and also examined the operation of a rail engine with 15 coaches on the bridge.
“The team inspected the entire bridge, rail track, road on the bridge and rail track on the North and South bank while taking stock of all safety aspects of the bridge,” an official source said.
The  railways will do a load test on the bridge within a few days following clearance by the CRS team.
“The approval by the CRS team is expected later this month following which passenger trains can run over the facility, ” he said.
Earlier this year, the first rail engine had chugged through the bridge to mark a significant chapter in the history of rail communication in the Northeast.

The 4.94 km long bridge, expected to be inaugurated anytime this year,  has already missed several deadlines over the past decade.

The double decker bridge has three lane roads on top and double line rail below.

The facility will not just lessen communication time between the two districts substantially but is expect to give a fillip to the economy and development of the area.
