SHILLONG: The St Edmund’s Rector on Monday said facts and sequence of events in the alleged sexual molestation case would be stringed together to ensure that justice is meted out.
The Rector told The Shillong Times that the Special Branch of the Police Department will be updated on the findings in the case involving a brother of Christian Brothers Congregation.
The Catholic Church got embroiled in the #MeToo campaign after Mary Therese Kurkalang took to social media to accuse Brother Francis Gale of Christian Brothers and Brother Muscat of Don Bosco, Laitumkhrah, of sexually abusing her when she was five years old.
It is yet to be known whether Brother Muscat has been transferred or removed.
Don Bosco functionaries have not made any statement regarding the issue.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Meghalaya Women’s Commission (MCW) Theilin Phanbuh said the internal complaints committee should be set up in every institution.
“Even government departments are instructed to have internal complaints committee,” she told reporters, adding that committees should make thorough investigation into such cases.
When pointed out that there are women who take advantage, MCW member Rebina Subba said the accused person can file a criminal proceeding against the complainant.
