Meghalaya govt approves policy for weighbridges

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government has approved a policy for setting up of weighbridge in the state.

Informing this here on Monday after the Cabinet meeting,   Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that  prior to the policy, any individual could  set up weighbridges and offer it to the government and sees whether it was feasible or not.

“In addition, there was not thrust area as to where multiple weighbridges were required,” he said

Now with the policy, the Government is hoping to regulate  setting up of weighbridges across the state

The policy which will be notified shortly is expected to address the issue of   leaking  of the revenue from the weighbridges

At present, there are 16  Government-owned weighbridges in the state.
