SHILLONG: The District Council Affairs Department has proposed February 23 as a tentative date for holding polls for KHADC and JHADC.
The tenure of the two councils will end in March first week, while there will be some more time for the expiry of tenure of GHADC.
The proposal was made by the District Council Affairs Department to the deputy commissioners of all the districts except Garo Hills to know whether there is any difficulty in holding the polls on February 23.
T. Dkhar, the commissioner and secretary of the department, said on Wednesday there was wrong information on social media that the government has already declared February 23 as the date for holding polls.
“This is not true. We want to make it clear that it was only a proposal made to the deputy commissioners to know whether the date will clash with other events or not,” Dkhar added.
