GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the state can be projected as one of the most powerful and resourceful in the world if the people follow the teachings of Vaishnavite saint, Srimanta Sankardev.

Speaking at the 25th Kendriya Sishu, Yuva and Aimatri Samaroh organised by the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at Balipara in Sonitpur district on Sunday, Sonowal said that the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev have supreme potential in empowering our society and could be an ideal pathfinder to the world.

“Assam can be the best state in the world which can claim spiritual, religious, cultural supremacy over other geographical entities provided the people of the state follow the footsteps of SrimantaSankardev,” the chief minister said.

Stating that the world at present is confronted with several challenges, he observed that the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev could help find a way out to tackle such challenges.

He therefore appealed to everybody to follow the teachings of the Gurujona to reign over all the evil forces. “Guru Shakti and Guru Bhakti are the supreme forces which can steer us through any darkness and lead us to enlightenment. Moreover, mothers are the great teachers and one should follow the advice of mothers,” Sonowal said.

Referring to the state government’s commitment to maintain sanctity of the satras, Sonowal said his government has carried out extensive eviction drives for clearing encroachments from the satras.

He also said such drives would continue to protect satras from encroachers.
