SHILLONG: The state government will sign a MoU with Bengaluru based Health Care Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG) shortly to provide cancer care to the people.
Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek recently said talks were on with HCG to complete the formalities before signing the MoU.
The plan of the state government is to make the cancer wing of the Shillong Civil Hospital functional at the earliest.
Earlier, Hek had held a few rounds of talks with the functionaries of HCG for setting up the state-of-the-art cancer wing at Shillong Civil Hospital.
Once the MOU is signed, the Centre will also assist the state to run the cancer wing.
The state is looking at the possibility of having partnership with the HCG to make the cancer wing fully functional.
The manpower and the machines to handle cancer care will be provided by HCG once the MoU is signed.
The cancer wing of the civil hospital has not been operational yet though the construction started 10 years ago.
