TURA: The proposed shifting of the Social Forest Range Office at Gasuapara (Kondok) in South Garo Hills to Chokpot of the same district has been opposed by several organisations from the area who feel that the office is one of the few valuable assets of the area.
Organisations including the ADE from Gasuapara, GSU units from Gasuapara and Ruga, Mothers’ Union, Nokmas and Sordars and locality leaders from different villages held a meeting at Gasuapara Playground on Monday regarding the matter.
“The Forest Range Office is valuable to the area as it gives assistance to the people whenever it is needed. We condemn the proposal to shift it to another place and oppose the move,” the organisations said.
Another issue discussed during the meeting is the non-repair of the Dimapara to Sibbari stretch of road on NH-62 which has been abandoned for so long. The organisations while demanding that repair works are immediately carried out on the road warned that they would resort to their own course of action if their plea was ignored.
