SHILLONG: There is division within the Congress over the party announcing the candidature of sitting MP Vincent Pala for Shillong seat without inviting applications.
“The AICC should conduct primaries (referendum) to select Lok Sabha candidates and to ascertain the winnability,” the general secretary of MPCC, John Kharshiing, said on Sunday.
He also reminded that the party is yet to officially call for applications.
It is yet to be known whether Kharshiing is interested in contesting the Lok Sabha polls.
In 2009, Kharshiing, who was fielded by UDP, had unsuccessfully contested against Pala.
